The funeral service for Janice Eula Chatham Brackin, 64, of Decatur will be Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ben Hayes officiating, followed by burial in Roselawn Cemetery.

Janice died in her home on Sunday, November 14, 2010. She was born in Cullman on May 5, 1946, to Dewey Irving Chatham and Euna Hancock Chatham.

Janice loved her family and devotedly helped to care for her two grandsons. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and brought joy to the lives of everyone she met through her uplifting, positive spirit each day. She is a graduate of Decatur High School Class of 1964. One of her favorite activities was keeping in touch with her classmates and helping organize class reunions.

Janice was employed at the Decatur 3M Plant for 28 years, first as plant manager's secretary and later as a purchasing agent. Janice was a Christian and an active member of Southside Baptist Church. She lovingly shared her talent of cooking with members of the church and community on a regular basis. Janice loved nature and found joy in the beauty of fall foliage, her well-tended flower garden, and especially enjoyed watching and feeding all types of birds.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Elizabeth Brackin, and a brother, Larry Elwin Chatham.

Janice is survived by her husband of 41 years, Dale Benton Brackin, her daughter, Amy Brackin Hood and her husband, Marlin Hood, and two grandsons, Seth Hancock Hood and Lucas Marlin Hood of Decatur and her son, Daniel Brackin of Birmingham. Janice is also survived by two sisters, Myra Chatham Carden and her husband, Charles Carden of Gardendale and Doris Chatham Cavnar of Decatur.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Michael Cavnar, Randy Cavnar and Mark Chatham and family and friends, Vernon Hood, Phillip Wiggington and T. Shane Smith.

Honorary pallbearers are family friends, Mark Herchenhawn and Patrick Hubbard.
