I.B. Hyde served two terms as Sheriff of Marshall County Alabama. His first term was 1919 - 1923 and last 1927 - 1931.

I.B. (Brov) Hyde, served in public office continually longer than anybody else in the history of Marshall County.

Mr. Hyde was in public office without a break for 52 years, and after that was chairman of the County Board of Registrars three years.
His first 34 years in office were as a peace officer – constable, deputy sheriff, sheriff two terms, and Guntersville police chief.

Mr. Hyde grew up on Brindlee Mountain and in 1907 was elected constable of Cranford Beat. Four years later Sheriff Jim Sparks appointed him his chief deputy. He had that office until 1913 when Mayor J.L. Burke appointed him chief of police.

He was chief until his election as sheriff in 1919. At the end of his term he became police chief again, appointed by Mayor Dr. E.H. Couch. In 1927 he was again elected sheriff and in 1931 Dr. Couch again appointed him chief.

He was chief until 1941 when Circuit Judge W.J. Haralson named him to a 6-year term as register in chancery. Judge Haralson re-appointed him in 1947 and Judge Stuart Stone re-appointed him to another 6-year term in 1953.

Later Governor John Patterson appointed him chairman of the County Board of Registrars.
