Who is Omie Coker? With the lack of information on the tombstone, we will probably never have a definitive answer. What I can provide are details uncovered while researching the Alexander Family of Marshall County.

In the book Bodine's of Marshall County, Alabama and Genealogy written by Thomas Bodine he indicates a Mary L. Alexander was the first child born to Louisa Eliza Bodine (1863 - 1890) and Benjiman Valentine Alexander (1859 - 1945) in 1880. She married Thomas L. Coker on December 27, 1904 in Gadsden, AL. She married under the name Oma Alexander. Her obituary in the Guntersville Democrat dated August 24, 1905 read "Ms. Tom Coker died at the house of her father B.V. Alexander the 12th and was buried at Brashier's Chapel Cemetery. She leaves a husband and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss".

On my many trips to the cemetery I have looked for a Mary or Oma Coker with no luck. Before my last visit, I discussed with my father who was born in 1925. He indicated through conversations many years ago with his Uncle Street Alexander (1884 - 1963) and Aunt Orah Alexander (1886 - ????), who were also children of B.V. and Eliza Alexander, thier sister who died was called Naomie.
