A brief graveside service was held in the Buckingham cemetery at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning for John M. Bickett, 87 a former Traer community resident, died Sunday in Des Moines of uremic poisoning. The Rev. Oliver Stevenson , pastor of Tranquillity church conducted the rites. Mr. Bicket was born near Traer on August 22, 1868 and lived in this community for many years. He was married May 22, 1901 to Minnie Stevenson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stevenson, early settlers. Mrs. Bickett died June 17, 1917. Tow years after the death of his wife he moved from Traer to Hudson. He located in Des Moines in 1923. During the last several years he has made his home with his children. As a young man he was active in Ripley Congregational church, and after marriage was a member of Tranquillity.
Preceding him in death besides his wife were an infant daughter, and a son, Roger, who died in 1942. He leaves a son, Robert, of Des Moines, two daughters, Mrs. Ernest E. (Dorothy) Kostlan, of Pasadena, California; and Mrs. Bradford (Margaret) Diller, of Stover, Missouri; and four grandchildren. Mr. Bickett was from a family of 13 children, only two of whom survive him a sister, Mrs. Jessie Carlisle, or Churdan, Iowa, and a brother, Henry E. Bickett, of Hudson Mrs. West Dodd, a sister, died a year or two ago in Des Moines at more than 100 years of age. Accompanying the body to Traer Tuesday were the son Robert and family, and Mrs. Roger Bickett of Des Moines.
