Gloria J. Wygant, 96, of Huntington, IN, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at 1:55 a.m. at the Heritage of Huntington. Mrs. Wygant was employed as a cafeteria cook at Lafayette Central School, Roanoke. She was a member of Monson Chapel United Methodist Church and was a past member of Mt. Zion Ladies Aid. She was born March 8, 1913, in Allen County to Elmer and Clem Griffith Platt. She married Laurell Edward Wygant on Aug. 29, 1931. He preceded her in death Jan. 1, 1997. Surviving are a son, Burton (Elsie) Wygant, of Roanoke; a daughter: Joy (Lester) Sheets, of Roanoke; two sisters: Rebecca (Edward) Merckx, of Fort Wayne, and Patricia Switzer, of Roanoke; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Calling is Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Harold Klinker officiating.
