GLOUCESTER - Verdi Alfred Dodds Jr., 88, died Nov. 10, 2010, at his home.
He was born in Boston, Mass., to the late Verdi Dodds Sr. and Luda McKinney Dodds. Verdi served in the United States Army during WWII as a surgical technician and received the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired from Burgess Brothers in Canton, Mass., and was a member and Past Grand Master of the Washington Lodge AF & AM, Lexington, Mass. He was a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and received the Coast Guard Certificate of Administrative Merit. Verdi loved football and volunteered with the CNU football team.
His wife, Ingrid K. Dodds, preceded him in death in 2006.
He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Dodds; son, Paul Dodds and wife, Kathleen; granddaughter, Kristina Serio and husband, Joe; great-grandsons, Calob and Noah Serio; three nieces and four nephews.
A Memorial Service officiated by the Rev. Timothy B. Kirby Sr. will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at Windsor Gardens Cemetery and Mausoleum.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Riverside Walter Reed Hospice for their care and support given to Verdi and his family. Verdi was a hospice volunteer and his wish was for donations in his memory be made to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, P. O. Box 1130, Gloucester, VA 23061.
