Duane Carl Burney, 76, of Platte City, Mo., formerly of Polk, was united with God and reunited with his parents on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at Garden Valley Manor and Rehabilitation from severe and lengthy medical conditions. Duane was born Sept. 17, 1934, in Goehner, the son of Carl C. and Irene Johnson Burney.

Duane was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Duane had farmed, owned and operated the Mobil Gas Station in Polk and was the district sales manager in the seed corn business. Following his retirement, he worked for Enterprise Rent a Car. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion post in Polk. Duane was an avid fisherman, golfer, assembled model airplanes and traveled the world with his wife. The Burneys wintered in Apache Junction, Ariz.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Al Bowman, and a niece, Nancy Emken.

Duane is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bev; son, Curt (Cammi) Burney; daughter, Kim (Richard Miller) Erickson; grandchildren, Tara (Tanner) Horn, Tasha, Spencer, Jacob and Skyla; great-grandchildren, Allie, Jaylee and Kolby; sisters, Virginia Bowman and Darlene (Bus) Bowman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger and MaryAnn Cotner; and a host of relatives and friends.
