H. Earl HARTMAN, 81, of 3509 Pleasant St., South Bend, died at 4:27 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend.
He was born Oct. 15, 1903 in Marshall County to George D. and Elizabeth FOGLE HARTMAN, and had livd most of his life in South Bend. On Oct. 27, 1930 in Rocheter, he was married to Eva Glen SHEETZ ALDERFER, formerly of Rocheter and Richland Center, who survives. He was retired from Ransberger Painting Co. In the South Bend-Mishawaka area, he was chaplain for the past 25 years of the Masonic Lodge, was present worthy Patron and charter past worthy patron of Eastern Star, was a member of the Order of Amaranth, was past worthy high priest of the Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem, Hope Shrine of Mishawaka and was a member of the Scottish Rite, the River Park United Methodist Church, and the Painters, Decorators and Paperhangers Union.
Surviving with the wife are a step-daughter, Louise B. SMITH, Tustin, Calif.; a step-son, Richard SHEETZ, South Bend; five grandchildren; a sister, Barbara TOWNSEND, College Station, Pa.; a brother,William H. [HARTMAN], North Liberty, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Walter CLEVENGER, Rochester.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Hollis-Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, with the Rev. John R. PARKS officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A Masonic memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, followed by an Eastern Star memorial service. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
