LAST RITES FOR W.F. MEHAFFEY TO BE HELD TODAY
Last rites will be held this afternoon at three o’clock for William F. Mehaffey, 86, who passed away at midnight [12:15 am] Tuesday, July 24, 1940 at his home on Killian street, following a serious illness of four weeks. The services will be held at the residence. Rev. J.S. Hopkins will be in charge.
Mr. Mehaffey is a native of this county, and a retired farmer. While he had been in ill health for the past eight years, his condition did not become serious until four weeks ago.
Active pallbearers will be nephews of the deceased. Nieces will serve as flower girls.
Surviving are four daughters, Misses Nettie and Maude Mehaffey, Mrs. Alice Jackson and Mrs. Gus Cochran, all of Waynesville, one son, Alney Mehaffey, also of Waynesville.
One sister, Mrs. John Davis of Saunook, and two brothers, Cebe Mehaffey of Canton, and Tom Mehaffey of Lynchburg, Virginia. Also ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Honorary pallbearers will be L.M. Killian, J.W. Killian, Alf Creasman, Dr. N.F. Lancaster, Dr. R. Stuart Roberson, R.V. Welch, David Underwood, Sam Kelley, Oliver Young, Roy Davis, John Dee Mehaffey.
