Big Rapids - Marie B. Barnhill, 97, formerly of Big Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 18, 1995, at the Greenery Nursing Home in Clarkston, where she had been a resident for the past two years.
She was born March 27, 1898, in Big Rapids to Christina and Else (Madsen) Nelson. A graduate of Big Rapids High School, she was a lifelong resident of Big Rapids. Married to Dale R. Barnhill in Grand Rapids March 14, 1922, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm and the Pleasant View Silver Fox Ranch in Big Rapids. After retirement, they moved to the City of Big Rapids, where they made their home until Dale's death May 29, 1980. At that time, Marie moved to Waterford making her home with her daughter. She was a member of the United Church of Big Rapids.
Surviving are: Daughter Phyllis McDonald of Waterford; two grandsons, Gary McDonald of Beverly Hills; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Dale, she was also preceded in death by three infant brothers.
Funeral services will be 1 pm Wednesday at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with the Rev. Jon Fleming officiating. Burial will take place at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 am until time of services on Wednesday.
