Combs died Sunday at St. Anthony's Hospital in Michigan City. He is survived by his wife, Nova; daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Rogers of Rockville, Md. ; son, Bobby Ronald Combs, Valparaiso; mother, Liddie Gayhart, Portage; two brothers, Sim Combs of Portage and Andrew Combs of Hebron; six sisters, Polly Creech of Hindman, Ky., Beatrice, Maud and Abbie Creech and Clara Holcomb, all of Portage; and Frankie Cam of Fosteria, Ohio, and six grandchildren.
Combs was a unit foreman with the State Highway Department, and a member of the Portage Moose.
