Memorial services for Leola M. (Lea) Schafer, 64, were held Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, by the Rev. Eugene Schipper. Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, was in charge of arrangements.
Leola M. Schafer of Anamosa died Saturday, May 8, 1999 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids.
Leola M. (Lea) Bartels was born May 28, 1934 at Lost Nation, Iowa to Hans and Edna Burmeister Bartels. She was united in marriage on Nov. 25, 1967 with Darrell H. Schafer, who preceded her in death on July 20, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Linda L. Von Behren.
Survivors include her son, Greg of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Lorraine (Homer) Clark of Anamosa, LaVonne (Gareth) Reed of Ann Arbor, Mich. Lila (Keith) Schlemmer of Anamosa; one brother, Virtus (Donna) Bartels of Rowland Heights, Calif. Also surviving are 17 nieces and nephews and 22 great-nieces and nephews.
The family requests Memorials be given to Hospice of Mercy.
