Funeral services were conducted last Friday afternoon at the First Baptist Church of Goldthwaite for Mrs. Mattie A. Allen, 79, who had been a resident of Austin for the past 20 years and who died in a hospital there on Tuesday night of last week. The final rites were conducted by the Rev. J, T. Ayers, Pastor of the First Baptist Churh.
Mrs. Allen, who formally lived in Mills County is survived by a son, Otis Allen of Austin; two daughters, Mrs. J.S. Daugherty of Austin and Mrs. W.W. Richards,formally of Goldthwaite and now of Alamogordo,New Mexico; four brothers, Harmon Joiner of Arizona, Buck Joiner of Eldorado, Berry Joiner and L.L. Joiner both of San Saba; one sister, Mrs. Maude Braken of San Angelo; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Mrs. Allen who died in the Seaton hospital in Austin, was born in Mississippi. As a child, she came to Texas with her family in 1876. Until she moved to Austin she had lived most of the time near Goldthwaite. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.
Pall bearers were Will Woody, Guy Rudd, Loy Long, Everitt Holland, Brian Smith, and Roy Beane.
