Obituary;
Mrs. Ella Cornwell
Like leaves when grow into loveliness, utility and maturity, and the yellow with age, and finally dropping to earth make room for others to follow, so one generation of the human family live their lives and pass on and another takes their place.
The deceased Mrs. Ella Cornwell lived more than her allotted time. She grew to womanhood, ripened with many and varied experiences, and her earthly career.
Ella Abbott Cornwell was born in Adams county, Ohio, January 11, 1864, and passed away at her home about nine miles southwest of Lebanon at 12:40 p.m., February 13, 1 944. She had attainted the age of 80 years, 1 month and 2 days. She came to Smith County when about 8 years of age.
In 1885 she was united in marriage to George Davis of Mankato, where they began home keeping. To them were born two children, one daughter, Mrs. Willard Slater of Lebanon and one son Frank who died May 17, 1937. Her companion died when the children were very small and on March 21, 1889 she was united in marriage to Charles B. Cornwell and they settled on a farm, where she continued to live until she left for her home beyond this vale of tears. To this union three children were born, Lloyd and Dossy Harold, deceased, and Mrs. Monia Sealock, whose home is near to that of her mother.
She and her second husband confessed their faith in Christ and united with the Protestant Methodist church of Custer. A few years ago she professed the renewing of her faith in Christ and during her illiness she read her Bible much, listened daily to a sermon which came to her over the radio, and repeatedly said she was sure God loved and cared her.
She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Monia Sealock and Mrs. Willard Slater, twelve grandchildren and many friends, who will miss her very much out of their lives.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, February 16, in the Oak Creek Christian church by Rev. L.B. Tremain. Music was rendered by Mrs. Glen Shields and Mrs. L. V. Beiter, with Mrs. Hershel Cunningham at the piano. Burial was in the Oak Creek cemetery.
