Carthage man dies in Springfield hospital
Joe W. Lynn, 70, 717 E. Chestnut St., died at 11:50 p.m. Monday at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, after an illness of one month.
Born Jan. 20, 1920, southeast of Sarcoxie in the Dry Valley community, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Iva Lynn.
He was a graduate of Sarcoxie high School and moved to Carthage in 1947 from Sarcoxie. He was a machine operator at Hercules Powder Plant, retiring in 1982. He was an Army veteran of World Ward II, serving with the 203rd Missouri National Guard.
He was married to Helen Ward May 31, 1947, at Columbus, Kan. She survives.
Also surviving are a son Stephen Lynn, Kansas City, MO.; two daughters Margaret Strain, 1009 S. McGregor St., and Linda Gollhofer, Springfield; a sister Frances Whitaker, 1024 E. Fairview Ave.; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at The Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.

Services for Carthage man held Thursday
Services for Joe W. Lynn, 70, 717 E. Chestnut., who died Monday at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at The Ulmer Funeral Home.
Victor Knowles, minister, officiated.
John Mouton sang "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art". Miss Betty Anne Wyatt was organist.
Pallbearers were Mike Gollhofer, James Curry, Keith Strain, Bill Glaze, Gary Wecott and Carl Bowers.
Burial was in Park Cemetery.
Arrangements were under direction of The Ulmer Funeral Home.
