Dorothy A. Bates, 86, of West Chester, died on Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Presbyterian Health Center.
Born in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late Charles Harrison Areson and Esther Ann Mattson Areson.
She graduated in 1931 from West Chester High School and in 1935 from West Chester Business School. She audited several classes at West Chester State in the 1960's.
She was the secretary to the principal at Henderson High School for 25 years, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of the Baptist Church of West Chester for over 70 years, where she was a former church clerk, deacon, choir member, and teacher. She participated in many boards and committees over the years.
She was a member of the Women's Exchange of West Chester and the Marshallton Branch of the Chester County Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by a daughter, Robyn Lou Klein of Lebanon, Pa., a son-in-law, Hal Klein of Lebanon, PA., and a grandson, David.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, at the Baptist Church of West Chester, 211 S. High St., West Chester.
Interment will be private at Green Mount Cemetery.
