Wildlife Conservation Officer David Grove was shot and killed on Schriver Road, near Red Rocks Road, in Freedom Township, Adams County, at approximately 10:45 pm.

It is believed that he was making a traffic stop just south of Gettysburg National Military Park when he was fatally shot in the head. The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.

Officer Grove had served with the Pennsylvania Game Commission for three years.

His killer was arrested and currently facing the death penalty.

Wildlife Conservation Officer David L. Grove, 31, of Fairfield, PA, was killed in the line of duty, Thursday evening, November 11, 2010, near Fairfield, PA.

Born March 5, 1979 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of Dana S. and Lucy R. (Straub) Grove of Waynesboro.

David graduated from Grace Academy in Hagerstown, MD with the class of 1997. He later attended Appalachian Bible College in Bradley, WV for two years, prior to receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Wildlife Sciences from Penn State University in 2004. In 2008, he graduated from the Ross Leffler School of Conservation.

He was a Deputy Wildlife Conservation Officer in Franklin Co., PA from 2001-2007. Following his graduation from conservation school, he became a Wildlife Conservation Officer in Adams County, PA.

David was a member of Independent Bible Church in Martinsburg, WV and attended services at Otterbein Church, Waynesboro. He was also a member of the Conservation Police Officers Lodge #114, the Fraternal Order of the Police, Greencastle Sportsman's Association, and the Blue Ridge Sportsman's Association.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and playing Guitar Hero. He was also an avid fan of Pittsburgh Steelers football and Pittsburgh Penguins hockey.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Chad M. Grove and his wife Anna of Martinsburg, WV; his sister, Jennifer M. Grove of Waynesboro; two nieces Mandy and Parker Grove of Martinsburg; his nephew Kayden Grove of Martinsburg; his maternal grandmother, Laura Budd of Harrisburg, PA; his girlfriend Angela R. Heare of Falling Waters, WV; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, November 21, 2010, in the Waynesboro Area Senior High School Auditorium, 550 East Second Street, Waynesboro, with Pastors Michael Newman, Mark Johnson, and Brad Heacock, officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

There will be a public viewing for family, friends, and fellow officers from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, November 19, 2010 at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Law enforcement officers are encouraged to attend between 1:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. The family will be present from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
