Margaret Ann Chenworth Daspit died peacefully in her sleep early on Monday morning, Sept. 16, 2002, at age 91. She was born on Dec. 21, 1910, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Charles Johnson Chenworth and Grace Adele Yost Chenworth. She grew up in Savannah, GA and Wilmington, NC, where she graduated from high school in 1928. After working for the telephone company, she entered nurses training at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, MD in 1932. Upon graduation as a registered nurse in 1935, she worked at hospitals in Baltimore, MD, Wilmington, NC, and Washington, D.C. While working at Veteran's Hospital she met Lt. Eugene P. Daspit of New Orleans. They were married in Lake Worth, FL on June 26, 1944. She raised five children while living in New Orleans, LA; Biloxi, and Gulfport, MS.; England; and Sun Prairie, WI. In 1965 she returned to the nursing profession and worked at Madison General Hospital until she retired in 1975. She was a member of Sacred Hearts Parish in Sun Prairie for 26 years and a member of St. Dennis Parish since 1987. For the last five years she shared a home with her granddaughter, Kelly, and her husband, Eric, on Madison's East Side. Margaret always gave generously or her time, her resources and her caring to her family, her friends and especially to those in need. In addition to her immediate family there are many who considered her "family" and called her "Grandma." She was a gift and a blessing to all who knew her. She had a love for life, a strong faith and a limitless amount of love. She will be missed deeply by all who knew her. She is survived by a daughter, Frances (Michael) Klos of Madison; sons, Eugene (Mavourneen) Daspit of Spokane, WA, Patrick (Pam) Daspit of Whitefish Bay, WI, Philip (Kay) Daspit of Coral Springs, FL, and Michael (Diane) Daspit of Pleasant Hill, IA; 10 grandchildren, Kelly (Eric) Maly, Kathy (Larry ) Hussey, Mark (Lori Koifornus) Daspit, David Daspit, Jenny (Craig) Wiles, Rachel Klos, John Daspit, Lisa Daspit, Bryan Daspit and Gregory Daspit; two great-grandchildren, Nicole Wiles and Natalie Wiles; two sisters-in-law, Florence Irby of Mobile, AL and Joyce Daspit of New Orleans, LA; numerous nieces, nephews, close friends; and her beloved cat, Heathrow. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a brother, Charles; and sisters, Helen and Rosemary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Dennis Catholic Church, 505 Dempsey Rd. on Friday, Sep. 20, 2002, at 1:30 p.m., with Father Kent Schmitt presiding. Burial will follow in Sacred Hearts Catholic Cemetery, Sun Prairie. Visitation will be at Gunderson East Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Dr. on Thursday, Sep. 19, 2002 from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family for either Luke House or St. Dennis Catholic Church.
