John was the son of E. W. and Elizabeth Waring (Glass) Marshall. He married Josephine "Josie" Downs and they were the parents of five children: Edward West, John Francis Jr., Lallie, Wesley Downs and Percy Maddin.

Funeral Held Here


Funeral services for John F. Marshall Sr., pioneer Wacoan, who was found dead in his room in the Raleigh hotel Monday morning, was held from the residence of his son, E. W. Marshall, 1535 Morrow street, at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The funeral was largely attended by the Pat Cleburne chapter of the Confederate veterans attending in a body, and a great number of the older citizens of Waco being present. There were many floral offerings.

John Roak, pastor's assistant at St. Paul's Episcopal church, where Mr. Marshall was once a member of the vestry, read the Episcopal burial service, in the absence of Dr. W. P. Witsell, the rector.

Active pallbearers were: Walter Gregg, R. J. Tolson, W. E. Cameron, J. Lee Davis, W. L. Edmond, Dero M. Wood, Anderson Riley and D. R. Gurley.

Honorary pallbearers were, Eugene Early, Luke Moore Sr., Gen. Felix D. Robertson, E. Rotan; Judge John C. West, M. A. Cooper Sr., J. T. Davis, J. B. Earle, W. H. Talley and Allan D. Sanford.

Internet was at Oakwood cemetery. Puckett Undertaking company was in charge.
