He was the first Judge of Morgan County, Kentucky (1850), was surveyor in 1828,established the Primitive Baptist Church at Cannel City, KY. He served as minister of the Walnut Grove Church for over 33 years and was a southern sympathizer during the Civil War. He and his six sons enlisted in the Confederate Army in October of 1861. He entered as a Private but was soon appointed Chaplain of the 5th Kentucky Infantry Marshall's Brigade, Army of Southwestern Virginia. He lived at the head of Caney Creek at Walnut Grove on Stacy Fork, Morgan County, Kentucky. Married to Prudence Barker.
