Mrs. Amelia I. Newton, 83, of 3339 Station Rd., Castlewood, died at 4:23 a.m. today in a Pittsburgh hospital after a two year illness.
She was born in Lawrence County, July 26, 1882, to the late William and Elizabeth McQuiston Gilbert. Her husband, William Fisher Newton, died in 1930. Mrs. Newton was a member of the Holy Mission Church of Castlewood where she was a lifetime resident.
Surviving are three sons, Harold W. of Castlewood, Elmo F. of Girard, Ohio, and Raymond D. of New Castle; seven daughters, Mrs. Lewis (Goldie) Hooker, Mrs. George (Hazel) Hazen and Mrs. Betty Rossi of Ellwood City, Mrs. William (Blanche) Daugherty and Mrs. Charles (Dorothy) Williams of New Castle, Mrs. George (Hattie) Stiefel of Castlewood and Mrs. Sam (Inez) Lubin of Pittsburgh; a brother, Robert Gilbert of Ellwood City; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Carlin of Ellwood City; 29 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; and a sister, Mrs. Sadie Sarver in 1963.
The family will receive friends at the Kenneth C. Turner Funeral home, 500 Sixth st., Ellwood City, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.
