Mrs. Gertrude Besse Biddle
Mrs. Gertrude Besse Biddle, age 101, of Remington, died at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Rensselaer Care Center.
Born near Remington September 3, 1880, she was a daughter of George and Harriet Besse. She moved with her family to Remington in 1893. She graduated from Remington High School in 1899.
She attended Indiana State University Teachers College at Indianapolis and Purdue University. She began her teaching career in local township schools in 1900. Three years later she joined the Remington Public Schools and taught there 25 years.
She was married June 23, 1929, to Daniel W. Biddle, who died January 18, 1954.
She was a member of the Remington Presbyterian church where she taught Sunday School classs for many years. She also was a member of the Remington Library Board for many years. She was a member of numerous church groups and civic organizations in the community.
Survivors include a step-son, Charles Biddle, of Remington. Also surviving are two nephews, three nieces, four step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Presbyterian Church of Remington with Rev. Bradley Longfield officiating. Interment will be at Remington Cemetery.
