Leland G. Bargen, 83, of Superior died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010. Leland was born Feb. 13, 1927, at Superior to Carl, Sr and Katharine Caroline Marie "Marie" (Grummert) Bargen.

Leland was united in marriage to Lyda Geiswinkler on June 18, 1949.

Leland was preceded in death by: Parents and daughter, Barbara Sheets.

Survivors are: wife, Lyda of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Roger Vollertsen of Syracuse and Nancy and Brian Christy of Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Dixie Bargen of Superior; son-in-law, Michael Sheets of Superior; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren: brother, Orlin Bargen of Superior. and a host of friends and relatives.

Leland George Frederick Bargen, the son of Carl Sr. and Marie (Grummert) Bargen, was born on February 13, 1927 on a farm near Superior, Nebraska. He passed away on November 7, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 24 days.

Leland was the youngest of seven children, he attended Smyrna Grade School and graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1945. He was a life long member of Salem Lutheran Church being baptized on March 27, 1927 by Pastor Schult and confirmed on August 25, 1940 by Pastor Scholl. He was inducted into the United States Army on December 22, 1945 and was honorably discharged on February 15, 1947 serving during World War II. Leland farmed his entire life on the family farm 5 miles North of Superior. When he returned from the service he rejoined his father and brothers to take his place on the family farm.

He was united in marriage to Lyda Geiswinkler on June 18, 1949 at Hope Lutheran Church, South Sioux City, Nebraska. This union was blessed with four children. Together they raised their family on the farm near Superior, retiring and moving into Superior in 1988.

Leland was a member of the Superior American Legion, Salem Lutheran Church serving as Council Member and past Treasurer, and Superior Red Caps Booster. He enjoyed bowling and going to coffee with friends. For many years he enjoyed attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Eilert Bargen, Alvin Bargen, Carl Bargen, Jr. Frederick Bargen; sister, Ruby Wilton and daughter Barbara Sheets.

Survivors include his wife Lyda of the home; daughters, Sharon Vollertsen and husband Roger of Syracuse, Nebraska, Nancy Christy and husband Brian of Lincoln, Nebraska and son, Steven Bargen and wife Dixie of Superior, Nebraska; son-in-law, Michael Sheets of Superior, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren: Laura Weber, Mike Nelson, Jeff Nelson, Stacy Woods, Jon Vollertsen, Jillian Christy, Steven Christy, Katrina Bargen, Ben Bargen and Kristina Bargen; 8 great grandchildren: Ethan Weber, Skylee, Tycen and Kameron Nelson, Jaden & Tanner, Makenna & Jaxon Vollertsen; one brother, Orlin Bargen of Superior, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 from the Salem Luterhan Church, rural Superior with Pastor Don Olson officiating.

Pallbearers were Ben Bargen, Mike Nelson, Jeff Nelson, Steven Christy, Jon Vollertsen and Vaughn Bargen.

Interment with Full Military Rites was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Superior, Nebraska.
