Thomas M. Tierney, 84, of Aurora, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at his residence at Jennings Terrace. He was born March 22, 1922 in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Leo and Ona Tierney.

Tom was a veteran of WWII having served in a field artillery unit in Germany. He was a graduate of Loras College and began as a teacher and coach at Holy Family High School in Iowa. He moved to Aurora in 1952 where he taught and coached at Marmion Military Academy. He served as the varsity basketball coach from 1952 thru 1961 and assistant varsity football coach from 1952 thru 1966, while teaching History and Economics.

In 1966 Tom took a position with the City of Aurora as Head Golf Professional at Phillips Park, and later at Fox Valley Country Club as well. He retired in 1985 as a 19 year member of the PGA of America. Tom was a beloved father, coach and instructor. He always had a kind word and endearing smile for everyone he met. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the entire staff at Jennings Terrace for the outstanding care and quality of life they afforded Tom during his residence.

Tom is survived by his children, Dr. Michael (Kathy) Tierney, David (Joy) Tierney, Tom (Sue) Tierney, Anne Tierney all of Aurora, Mary Beth Tierney of White Fish Bay, WI., Tim (Diane) Tierney of Naples, FL., Dyan (Steve) Blanton of Glen Ellen, IL., and John (Pat) Tierney of Rockford, MI.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, Leo (Carol Ann) Tierney of Mansfield, TX.

Tom was preceded in death by his first wife, Marian; his second wife Geri; his parents; three brothers, Dan, Pat and John; a sister Joan.
