Mrs. Mary Swope Newton Of New Castle Road Passes Away At Age Of 72 Years
Ellwood City, April 8 - Mrs. Mary Swope Newton, aged 72 years, of the Ellwood City-New Castle road, passed away in the Ellwood City hospital at 1:30 o'clock this morning after an illness of several weeks' duration.
Mrs. Newton was born and reared in Pittsburgh, but had passed her entire married life of 53 years in Lawrence county. Her husband, William C. Newton, preceded her in death just one year and ten months ago.
Surviving are five sons and three daughters: Jess at home, Mrs. Mont Reep, Mrs. Sanford Crable, Emmet Newton and Harry Newton all of Castlewood; William G. Newton of the New Castle road, Mrs. John T. Brinton of New Castle, Clair of Detroit, Mich., also a step-son, Hillery Newton, of Detroit, Mich., 17 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers, William and John Swope, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Masters, of Markle, Westmoreland county.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 1:30- o'clock from the late residence, with Rev. Thomas Berger, pastor of the Slippery Rock Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. Newton was a faithful member. Interment will be made in the church cemetery.
