Greenville S. Hawkins died at his home on Lanes Prairie, Mo. Feb. 5th, 1921. Mr. Hawkins was born in Jasper Co. near Carthage, Dec. 25, 1846. Age at the time of his death, 74 years 1 month and 11 dys.

He lived in Jasper County until the age of 18 and then moved to St. Louis Co., where at the age of 21 he was converted and united with the old "Fee Fee" Baptist Church, This is the oldest Baptist church west of the Mississippi river. In 1882 he moved to Franklin Co. and in 1886, was married to Miss Emma Howard. To this union seven children were born, two boys and five girls. Three of which proceeded him in death. He leaves to mourn his untimely death, his wife and four daughters and a host of relatives and friends. The four daughters are: Mrs. Lillie Crum, Mrs. Gertie Birdsong, Addle and Beula Hawkins, all of Lanes Prairie.

In 1908 Mr. Hawkins moved to Belle, Mo, and lived there until 1910. He then moved to Lanes Prairie, where he remained until the time of his death. He united with the Liberty Baptist Church of High Gate in 1914, by letter and lived a faithful christian until his death.

On Monday Feb. 7th his body was taken to High Gate and our pastor, Rev. J.S. Mahan, of Eldon, MO, conducted the funeral services. His text was Job, 14: 1st and 2nd verse: "Man that is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble. He cometh I forth like a flower, and is cut; down, he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not."

His body wars then laid to rest in the new cemetery at High Gate. There to await the coming of Jesus Christ; "when He comes to be glorified in His Saints and to be admired in all them that believe." When they that die. in the Lord shall arise to meet their Savior, to be lifted to the skies to that haven of Eternal rest." To the bereaved we extend our heartfelt sympathy in their sad hours of deep sorrow. May we also live that we can look forward with bright hopes for the time when we can join is that and of joy where parting is no more. [The Bland Courier, Bland, Gasconade Co, MO Feb. 11, 1921]
