Ruth E. (Aunt Ruth) Ficken, 91, of rural Nelson, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
A memorial celebration of life will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at Heath Creek Baptist Church in rural Nelson. Inurnment will take place in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Orange, Calif. Memorials may be made to Heath Creek Baptist Church. Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home of Marshall is in charge of the arrangements.
Born June 10, 1919, in Groff, Neb., she was the daughter of the late James G. Picking and Ella Pearl Bishop Picking. In October 1941, she married Walter Ficken, who preceded her in death. Much of her life was spent on the west coast where she and her husband fished commercially for several years. After the death of her husband, she moved to rural Nelson where she lived with her niece, Muriel Fisk and her family, and attended Heath Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by four nephews: Jerry Lewis Jones of Belleview, Ore., John Jones of Camp Myrtlewood, Ore., James W. Martin of Cameron and David Martin of Jonesburg; two nieces, Muriel Fisk of rural Nelson and April Mohan of Portland, Ore.; along with their families.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Martin and Muriel Jones and one brother, Paul Picking.
