Jarvis Clayton Batchelor was born in Whiteville,North Carolina on June 24,1918.He was the son of Jarvis Green Batchelor and Romelia Ann Lucas.He married Geneva Cockrell,they had six children.They moved to Florida in the mid 1950's.He worked in the citus industry as a mechanic.He was an ordained minister,his co-workers called him "Preacher Man".He served with The Merchant Marines during World War 11.He was a mechanic that could tell the problem,with out the use of a machine.He could play the piano by ear,I assume this was due to his mother playing a pump organ.Dad was well known for his famous barbecue.He followed his way of doing it his entire life.He later worked in Mobile Alabama on a tug boat,and was a barge operator. He was the kind of person that would give you his last dime,if you needed it.
