"Painter--Mary M. [sic] Painter, aged 69 years, died yesterday morning [21 November 1897] at 3 o'clock at her late home, four miles east of the city on Charleston pike. The funeral will be held from the residence Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment at Garlough cemetery." A county death record indicates that she died of consumption.
