Alice was the oldest of 10 children. She married Arthur on June 25, 1903 and they lived on the Groth farm, land purchased by Arthur’s grandfather, Ludwig Groth, first citizen of Cedarburg, when he first came there in 1843 when it was a wild countryside; now a quaint little tourist town with delightful stores.
Her grandson, Walter, Wally, to his cousins (which he hated being called) loved to visit the farm which was behind the house on Western Ave (they used to live in the farmhouse behind and along side it) where he would visit the chicken coop and dig worms (scrambling to get them before the chickens would grab them) to go fishing in nearby Cedar Creek next to Cedarburg Park, behind Trinity Lutheran Church. He also loved to climb grandma's cherry tree and gorge on cherries, eat currants off nearby bushes, and raspberries next to the cherry tree. He used to take the Inter Urban train (3-4 cars) from Milwaukee to Cedarburg during the summer and walk 75 feet to grandma's house. One of the fun things to do on his visit was watch the sheep get sheared on what had been the Groth farm, but sold to the Goetz (sp?) family when Grandpa Arthur became ill. Another favorite past-time when visiting was to go to the stock car races on Wed nights at the Ozaukee County fairgrounds with his grandma Groth.
