Alphus was the son of Alfred and Jane Copeland Miller,born in Deep Gap N.C.in what was then Wilkes Co.,now Watauga Co.He fought for the union in the Civil War.Married Sarah Ann Phillips,Sept.04,1856,then Lucinda Adams,then Maragret Tow.Was released from the hospital in New Orleans,La and mustered out of the service in Helena,Arkansas.
