Lucien Samuel "Sam" Clifford, 87, of Havana, Illinois, formerly of Cuba, died on Wednesday, October 3, 1990, in Havana, Illinois. He was born on September 7, 1903, in Fulton County, Illinois, to Amanda "Frances" (Bishop) and Isaac Amos Clifford. He married Mabel Laverne Jones on June 6, 1925. She died March 16, 1990.

A coal miner, he retired in 1969, and was a member of United Mine Workers Local 7455, Cuba High School Board, Senior Citizens Club, and the Lions Club. He was a Charter member of the Historical Society and Putnam Township officer for six years.

He was also a member and trustee of Cuba United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men.

He is also preceded in death by one great-grandchild; one brother; and three sisters.

Surviving are three sons, Scott of Havana, Lloyd of Brookfield, WI; and Lawrence of Elliott City, MD; eight grand children; 14 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Elmer Clifford of Abington.
