From Adin Ballou's Ballous in America book: "His death was noticed in a Keene paper thus.-- ‘Mr. Simeon Ballou, an old and much respected citizen of Keene, died very suddenly, probably of apoplexy, at the store of J. B. Fisher, about 8 o'clock last Thursday morning. Mr. Ballou walked down to the store, apparently in his usual health, and was getting ready to begin his work. He stood by the stove talking with Mr. Johnson, who also works at Mr. Fisher's, when he suddenly fell to the floor and expired. Mr. Ballou has resided in Keene over thirty years, we believe, and for more than twenty years he has worked at shoemaking in the store where he died. He was a prominent member of the Methodist church of this city, which he joined some twenty-nine years ago. He leaves a widow and three sons.'"
