Amanda was born in Union County South Carolina. Her parents were Joseph and Nancy Newberry Goodrum. She came to Chattooga County in 1857. The first church she attended was Penn's Chapel located in Trion, Georgia. She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Trion and remained a member for 65 years. She taught Sunday School for forty years. I met Amanda when I was 7 years old. She was a sister to my greatmother Harriet Goodrum Hawkins. Jean
