Long identified with Carroll County Financial and Business Affairs Elijah C.Rice, age 85 years, president of the Camden State Bank, and who for over fifty years has been identified with the business interests of Camden, Indiana, died at his home at that place Tuesday night of last week at 8 o'clock of complications following an attack of influenza. Mr. Rice had been in his usual health up to the time of last illness and was quite active for a man of his advanced years. He is survived by the widow, one sister and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Rice located in Camden, Indiana when a young man sixty years ago and for over fifty years was engaged in various lines of business. For many years he was a member of the firm of Ray & Rice, Pioneer Farm Implement Dealers and for some times was also engaged in the grain business with Mr. Ray. Mr. Rice was one of the organizers of the Camden State Bank in 1868 and was one of the oldest bankers in Carroll County, Indiana. He was a member of the Camden Lutheran Church and the Masonic Lodge and was the oldest Mason in the county. In his earlier days he was very energetic, always a leader in civic activities and all movements for the advancement of the community. Funeral services, largely attended were held at the residence on Friday afternoon, conducted by Reverend H. C. Stuckenburg. Interment in the Camden Cemetery.
