Lisa Pritchett Johnson died Sunday at her home in Bartlett, the end of a life that rocked, rolled and was a true wild ride. Born in Memphis and a graduate of Raleigh Egypt High School, Ms. Johnson was in the music business. In the early 1990s, she became the companion of John Entwistle of the rock supergroup The Who, living with him in his singular estate in England. Her world was shattered in June 2002 when the 57-year-old rock bassist died in a Las Vegas hotel the day before the band was to go on an American tour. The coroner said he died of a combination of cocaine use and heart disease. Ms. Johnson's love of Entwistle and of music came together in the sad business of dealing with his estate, which was to be divided among her, his mother and his son. Local guitarist Robert A. Johnson, who performed frequently with Entwistle, helped her in making arrangements for an auction of Entwistle's guitars in May 2003. "Lisa was very creative, a decent woman, gregarious and kind. She had a great understanding of the music business. She and John were attracted to each other by a love for music," said Johnson, who is not related to Ms. Johnson. Autopsy results are pending, but Ms. Johnson had suffered from asthma. She was 43. "She was visiting her family," said sister Kimberly Kay Rowland of Bartlett. "She was moving from England to Florida." Another sister, Tina Renee Pritchett of Las Vegas, said Ms. Johnson used to work at Strings & Things, a reflection of her passion for music. "She was fun-loving, easygoing and a free spirit." Robert A. Johnson, the guitarist, said she was engaged to Joe Walsh of the Eagles at one time. "They broke up and she met Entwistle, becoming his partner," he said. "She was an impeccable dresser and a beautiful woman. Entwistle could have had anyone because he was a superstar, but he picked her." Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Parkway Chapel with burial in Memphis Memory Gardens. She also leaves her stepfather, William Appling of Bartlett; a brother, Bobby Keith Pritchett of Bartlett, and a stepbrother, Keith Appling of Knoxville. The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. (Published in The Commercial Appeal 3/12/2005)
