James Francis Cyphert, 71 of Kiwanis Ave., Morgantown, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born November 9, 1936 in Richard, WV, a son of the late Charles F. and Anna Maude Sloan Cyphert.
Jim graduated from St. Francis High School and WVU with degrees in Engineering and Business.
Jim returned to Morgantown to a family business after working for Westinghouse and Union Carbide.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Star City. Additionally, he was an Eagle Scout, a member of Brooks Bird Club and Serra International for many years.
Mr. Cyphert was a very civic minded man who did many hours of volunteer work at Mon Pointe Continuing Care and Morgantown Meals on Wheels.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rena DiPetta Cyphert; his daughter Renee Morgan of Grayson, GA, his son Brian Cyphert and wife Tammy of Folsom, CA, his daughter, Jamee Panger and her husband Mark of Hollister, CA. Eight grandchildren: Jared Morgan, Anna, Grace, Faith, and Mireya Cyphert and Derek, Jacob and Andrew Panger. He is also survived by his brothers, Glenn B. Cyphert and his wife Leonore and Edward E. Cyphert and his wife Patricia all of Morgantown as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Charles C. Cyphert, and a sister, Mary E. Bucklew.
Friends will be received at St. Mary Catholic Church, Star City, from 4-8 PM PM on Friday, Feb. 15, with a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:30 PM, and again on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 10-11 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church at 11 Am Saturday in the funeral home with Father John V. DiBacco as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Westover. Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, is in charge of the arrnagements.
