ONEIDA - Katherine E. Anderegg, 96, formerly of Fultz Drive, died Thursday afternoon, Nov. 4, 2010 in the Extended Care Facility of the Oneida Healthcare Center, where she had been a resident for the past five years.
Born in Westernville on April 25, 1914, she was the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Teuscher Anderegg Sr. Katherine moved to the Town of Verona in 1922 and lived in that township until November 1991, when she moved to a condominium on Fultz Drive. She then moved to the Hazel Carpenter Home in April of 1997.
Miss Anderegg was a graduate of Verona High School and Cortland State Teachers College. Her teaching years were divided - she taught fifth, sixth and seventh grades during 1937 to 1949 at Verona High School and fourth grade at JD George Sr. Elementary School in Verona from 1968 to 1979.
She was a member of the Verona First Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a deacon and was in the choir. Katherine was interested in genealogical research and was the historian for the Town of Verona from 1965 to 1968, where she set up a filing system of local history and genealogy. Miss Anderegg also did research for the Erie Canal Village in Rome.
Katherine was a life member of the Verona Historical Association, a member of the Verona Republican Club, a former charter member of the Oneida American Association of Retired Persons, a member of the Madison County Retired Teachers Association and a life member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association.
She cared for her parents many years and did much for many elderly neighbors and friends. She was very interested in gardening and enjoyed her many flower gardens.
Surviving is one brother, Albert M. Anderegg of Utica and numerous cousins.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the second floor nursing staff at Extended Care facility.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, 260 Main St., Oneida with the Rev. Peg Ward officiating. Interment will be made in Verona Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 1-2 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Contributions in her memory may be made to Katherine Anderegg Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o VVS Dollars for Scholars, Patrick Road, Verona, NY 13478.
