Howard Tipton, an Altoona liveryman, whose wife and children reside in this city, died suddenly of apoplexy at Mercy Hospital, Altoona, yesterday morning. On Tuesday evening Mr. Tipton went into a store in the Mountain City and purchased an orange from a clerk, requesting the latter to cut it into quarters for him. This was done, and Mr. Tipton proceeded to the front door and gave three of the pieces to as many boys and started to eat the remaining one. Scarcely had he attempted to swallow it when he began to choke and called on one of the boys to strike him on the back. This was done, but he obtained no relief, and fell to the ground. A man named Stewart saw him fall and ran to his assistance. He was unconscious when taken to the hospital, where he expired seven hours later. Mrs. Anna Tipton, who has been making her home on Baumer street for the past seven years, went to Altoona last evening to attend the funeral, which took place this afternoon. She was accompanied by her sons and daughters - Alice, wife of Jacob H. Young, Edward Tipton, Mrs. Lloyd Miller, and Misses Ellen and Elsie Tipton.
