Elihu Akin, husband of Ruth Perry and Father of six children. He is one of eight sons born to Captain John Akin and Hannah Sherman in Dartmouth, MA. Lived his final years at 762 Dartmouth st South Dartmouth,MA.(sold to Elihu in 1769) and he owned a Tavern and shipyard at the wharf on the waterfront at the foot of Prospect st. He was a shipwright. All was destroyed by the British in retaliation for his zeal in the Continental Revolution. Thereafter the war for twenty-five years the village was called Akin's Wharf in his honor and to commemorate his early shipbuilding.
