According to Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia, "Mr. Culpepper after marriage continued to live in Hamilton County, FL, for about fifteen years, then moved to Echols County, in Georgia, and lived there until his death Dec. 7, 1888. He was a member of the Baptist Church and was an ordained minister, and pastored Sardis Church near his home for many years or until his death; also pastored the Baptist Church in Statenville, and several churches over in Hamilton County, FL. His seven sons who grew to be grown and married, all lived and died in Echols County, and became members of the Church of God and ministers in that church."
