There is a lot of controversy over the spelling of the last name. In Ulysses' marriage certificate to both his first wife Elisabeth & his second wife Martha the spelling is clearly Borel. In the 1870 & 1880 Census it is spelled, Borel. His wife Elizabeth's headstone states she is the wife of Ulysses Borel. An obituary notice appeared in the Vevay Reveille, 26 Nov 1885 (p. 5, col. 7): "Died. Borel—In Sue City, Mo., October 25, 1885, Ulysses Borel, aged 72 years. The subject of this notice was a well known citizen of this(Switzerland) county, born in Switzerla.
Yet in later documents, his sons took on the spelling of the last name as Borrell.
