Donald D. Porter, 74, of Remington, died at 5 a.m. Monday in the Broadway Methodist, Hospital in Merrillville.
He was born on July 8, 1922, in Remington. He graduated from Remington High Schol and the University of Idaho.
He was married on March 3, 1938, in Lewiston, Idaho, to Wanda Martin, who preceded him in death in 1974. He was married on Feb 29, 1976, to Dorothy Hefner Culp who survives.
He farmed for many years in the Remington area, and was the director of the Northwest Narional Bank.
He belonged to the United Methodist Church of Remington, the Eastern Star No. 169 of Remington, and the Masonic Lodge No. 351 of Remington.
He was a member of the Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite and the Knights of Pythians. He was a lifetime member of the Murat Temple.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Donna (Richard) Longest of Lafayette, Mrs. Linda (Stanley) Rupnow of Elkhart, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Janice (James) Rose of Valparaiso, and five grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
Three sisters preceded him in death.
Friends may call between 6-9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time Wednesday at the Stitz Funeral Home in Remington. Masonic services are at 7 pm EST Wednesday at the Stitz Funeral home. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church of Remington with Rev. John Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Remington Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the United Methodist Church of Remington.
