He was a member of First Baptist Church in Blackville. He graduated from the University of South Carolina where he received his bachelor's degree in physics and master's degree in education. He served as an aviator in WWII and the Korean War in the USMC and was decorated for his actions and retired from the USMC Reserve after 29 years of service. He had retired from a long career in education. He was a member of the Patt B. Coggin, American Legion Post in Blackville and the Salkehatchie Amateur Radio Society.
Surviving are two sons, Rev. Frederick Burt Orr and his wife, Kathy, and Clifton Kinder Orr, all of Blackville; sister, Sarah Scarborough of Atlantic Beach, FL; and 1 grandchild.
