HENRY AHRENS
Mr. Henry Ahrens passed away suddenly at the Lutheran Deaconess hospital in Chicago June 29, where he had been taken for X-rays to determine the true cause of his illness which had confined him to his bed a week previous. He had been ailing a long time with gall and liver trouble but never complained until his condition took a turn for the worse. A heart attack brought on his sudden end.
Mr. Ahrens was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, March 25, 1873, and came to America with his parents when he was ten years old. They settled in Des Plaines. November 5, 1887, he took as his bride Miss Minnie Dutsreund and they set up housekeeping in Glenview, later moving to a farm on Potter road, which ground has since become property of the Maine township high school. About ten years ago Mr. and Mrs. Ahrens retired from active farm duties when they moved to a new home at Ballard and Potter roads where they have resided since.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 23, at the late home and in St. Matthew's Lutheran church with Reverend J. Toepel officiating, delivered a comforting sermon in both English and German languages. Serving as pall bearers who two short months ago had performed that last act for Ms. Albert Ahrens, a daughter-in-law of the deceased; Wm. R. Tagtmeier, Martin Gewecke, Fred and August Bestmann, Leo and Otto Jaacks. Interment at Town of Maine cemetery.
Mr. Ahrens is survived by his bereaved widow, one brother John, one daughter, Anna Babcock, four sons, Albert, John Edward and George, four grandchildren and other relatives and scores of friends.
