Otto Franklin "Frank" Armfield Jr., 81, of 1026 Crosshill Lane, Newberry, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia. Mr. Armfield was born in Charlotte, NC, a son of the late Otto Franklin Armfield Sr. and Ruth Carrie Thrower Armfield, and was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was former editor and publisher of The Newberry Sun and was retired President of Sun Printing Company of Newberry. He was a member of Aveleigh Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder.

Mr. Armfield is survived by his wife, Agnes Templeton Armfield of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ruth and Russell S. Andrews Jr. of Mobile, Ala, and Agnes Carol and Ben P. Dillard III of Greer; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven Franklin and Teala Britt Armfield of Newberry, and James Martin and Emma Dunwody Armfield of Alpharetta, Ga; a sister, Constance A. McHargue of Statesville, NC; a brother, William C. Armfield of Prosperity; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Otto Franklin Armfield Jr. will be conducted at 1pm Wednesday at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Herb Ziegler. Private burial will be held at Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in Truesdell Hall. The family will be at the residence, 1026 Crosshill Lane, Newberry. Memorials may be made to Aveleigh Presbyterian Church, 1211 Calhoun St., Newberry, SC 29108. Grandsons will be pallbearers. Published in The Greenville News on Mar. 6, 2001.
