Said to have been born in the community of Whittens, son of Benjamin & Jennetta P. (BOYD) CARDEN. Married 07 APR 1882 in Lee County, Alabama, to Alice FAVORS. Father of eight children.

Nathan CARDEN (White), aged 28 years and single, appears in the household of George DORSY (Black), also a farmer, on the 1880 census of Wacoochee Valley, Lee County, Alabama.

Per "Britton & Dobbs Funeral Home Records, 1899-1971," transcribed and edited by Patsy Daniel Wright (2010), p. 892: Nathan A. CARDEN, 4523 Gilbert Avenue, died 21 MAR 1937, aged 81 years, 9 months, and 17 days, of pneumonia (attending physician GILLIAM); interred 22 MAR 1937 at Brantley, Georgia.

“N. A. CARDEN DIES SUNDAY: Succumbs to Illness Short While after Wife’s Death // Nathon A. Carden, 81, of 4522 Gilbert avenue, died Sunday afternoon at 5:15 o’clock at the family residence after an illness of 12 days. Mr. CARDEN was the husband of Mrs. Alice CARDEN who died Saturday morning at 2:15 o’clock at the same residence. They both had made their home in Columbus for only the past six months, having moved here from Upatoie, Ga. Mrs. CARDEN preceded Mrs. CARDEN in death by 36 hours. They were a most devoted couple, she being 80 years of age. // He is survived by two sons, William CARDEN of Buena Vista, Ga., and H. C. CARDEN of Columbus; four daughters, Mrs. J. M. ANDERSON of Upatoie, Ga., Mrs. Addie SIMMONS of Buena Vista, Mrs. O. D. GILBERT of Columbus and Mrs. T. J. TYLER, of Box Springs, Ga.; also several nieces and nephews. // Funeral services will be held at the Brantley M[ethodist] E[piscopal] church, Brantley, Ga., at 3 o’clock this afternoon with Rev. R.[ichard] W[illiam] CHAPLIN [III] officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The following will serve as pallbearers: Howard ANDERSON, Clyde TAYLOR, Willie, Emery, Ermond and Chester CARDEN. // Funeral services for Mrs. CARDEN were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Brantley church, near Buena Vista. Rev. M. CHAPLIN conducted the services and interment was in the church cemetery.
