LEE ANNIE CHARLTON SANDERS
Lee Annie, daughter of Abraham and Martha Jane Gist charlton, was born on November 8, 1878 in Simmons, Arizona. She attended elementary school in Simmons(ghost town in williamson valley), Liberty and Ft. McDowell and graduated from Phoenix Public High School. In Glendale, Arizona on November 27, 1902 she married Nathaniel Anthony Sanders. Nathaniel was a prominent Phoenix citizen and councilman and owner of a dredge transport business. In 1904 He sold his transport business and the couple moved to Liberty where they took up ranching and farming.

Lee Annie and Nathaniel had ten daughters: Clyda Ann Markham born August 15, 1902; a daughter stillborn at birth; Ruth Evelyn Pinney born July 16, 1905; Maude Lee Hinshaw born August 25, 1907; Francis Eugina Atchley born April 6, 1909; Julia Nell Atchley, born October 12, 1910; Edna Mae Godbehere born November 8, 1941; Martha Catherine Weedon born May 13, 1913; Irene Roy Lemley born June 5, 1916 and Pauline Jane Sims born October 7, 1919.

In addition to being a busy housewife and mother Lee Annie was very active in the Methodist Church, a member of the Arizona Sons and Daughters, the West Gila Valley Old Timers Club, the Arizona Pioneer Society, First families of Arizona, Liberty Women's Club, Daughters of the Confederacy and the Democratic Women's Club. On her seventy first birthday she was a guest on a radio show and told the listening audience "I have lived in Arizona all my life and still like it!" Spoken like a true native.

Lee Annie died on November 28, 1952 and is buried at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona.
