Elmer G. Abbott, 89, of Pool Road, North Haven, died March 25, 2008, at the Masonic HealthCare Center, Wallingford. He was the husband of Gloria A. Peterson Abbott.
Born in North Haven, Oct. 7, 1918, he was a son of the late Elmer G. Abbott, Sr. and Harriet Beach Abbott. Mr. Abbott had worked for New Haven Electro Type for 25 years and later in quality control for Perrelli/Armstrong for 10 years until his retirement. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and his name was one of the first to be placed on the World War II Memorial Plaque on the North Haven Green. Mr. Abbott was a member of the VFW Post 591 of Wallingford, the Ansantawae Masonic Lodge 89, AF & AM, of Milford; the Knights of Columbus Council 5737 of Pinellas Park, Fla., and the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Assembly 159 of St. Petersburg, Fla.
He is survived by his children, Linda (Brian) Pfnausch, of North Haven, Wayne (Rebecca) Abbott, of East Hampton, and David (Cathy) Abbott, of Wallingford; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara (Malcolm) Abbott, and a grandson, Peter W. Peltier.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Barnabas Church on March 28. Interment with full military honors was held in the North Haven Center Cemetery. The North Haven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
