Funeral services for Lee Loper, well known resident of Cross Roads, were held at 2 p.m. Friday from that community's Baptist Church with Rev. S.E. Hopkins and Rev. Stewart officiating. Interment was in the Athens City Cemetery.
Mr. Loper, 79, passed away in a local hospital Wednesday evening after an illness of several months.
The deceased was born in Van Zandt County and moved to the Ash Switch community in 1889. He moved to Cross Roads 31 years ago.
At the time of his death, Mr. Loper was a retired farmer and stockman. He had been a member of the Methodist Church since 1895.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. C.L. Loper of Cross Roads; four sons, Jerry T. Loper of Baird, Roy N. Loper of Athens, Joe Loper of Cayuga and Dale Loper of Port Arthur; three daughters, Mrs. Lola Appleton of Clyde, Mrs. Eula Moon of Cayuga and Mrs. Julia Blair of Dallas; one brother, Bud Loper of Van; one sister, Mrs. Etta Brewer of Athens; 28 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
